I really appreciate Mary of the Miracles’ description of peace as something already within us. Often we can try to look outside ourselves for peace, i.e. if x would just happen, or y would stop happening, then I could be at peace.
But if it’s already within us, perhaps what we most need to do is withdraw our focus from the external situation and go within to meet that place where it already exists.
There are so many techniques for reaching a state of peace, and certainly there can be issues to take care of in our lives and psyches so they can better reflect this quality. But I think the more often we choose to go within to meet that part of ourselves, the more capable we become of taking those external actions.
